In years gone by the district of Rustenburg was one of the biggest in South Africa. In this book Dr Nico Coetzee relates the history of the Rustenburg district and its people from the 1840's to 1940. Some of the surnames investigated in the book include Du Plessis, Heystek & Coetzee.

The book also discusses the history of the town of Rustenburg, from its founding and the allotment of the first farms at the end of the 'Groot Trek' up to 1940.

A number of valuable sketches, maps and documents are included, tracing the transfers of farms.
